Austin Area Young Carpet Cleaning Facts

In the event of major mishaps call your Young Carpet Cleaning specialist & use the following remedies until help arrives. Most spills don't become stains unless they are allowed to set for long periods of time or if they are treated with chemicals that could potentially set the stain. Don't ever SCRUB your spots, you could disrupt the makeup of the fiber causing it to look worn in that area. Instead, BLOT out stains just putting pressure on them using a white or light colored rag.

Dry carpet as completely as possible immediately after spotting to avoid other damage, especially mildew. Raise dampened area off floor when possible to improve circulation. Direct stream of air from fan, vacuum cleaner or hair dryer to hasten drying.

Blood - Test an inconspicuous area with hydrogen peroxide to check for color change. If no color change is present, pour peroxide onto contaminated area and blot up with light colored towels. Repeat if necessary. If large area is affected, call Young Carpet Cleaning so as to not cause permanent damage to the carpet fibers.

Candle Wax - Put ice in a plastic bag and place over the wax. Chip or scrape off excess wax with dull knife. Apply a brown grocery bag (without writing) and a medium hot iron, continuously moving to a clean area of the bag to absorb wax.

Cigarette Burns - can be partially remedied by clipping off blackened ends with small sharp scissors, then working in detergent solution and rinsing well.

Coffee, Tea - Act as quickly as possible. Hot coffee is the equivalent to brown dye. Blot up all of the spill that you can and immediately apply club soda. If you don't have club soda, use plain cold water. Pour it on and Blot with a white towel. Repeat until no more color transfers to the towel.

Crayon - spray with WD-40, let stand for a few minutes and blot up as much as possible, then apply dishwashing detergent and work into the stained area blotting again. Rinse with hot water and blot again.

Fingernail Polish - blot up as much polish as possible. After testing in an inconspicuous part of the carpet to be sure there are no ill effects to the carpet pile, apply nail polish remover with an eye dropper or non-silver spoon, blotting immediately after each application.

Elmer's Glue - Try saturating glue with undiluted white vinegar. Working in an upward motion, work it out of the fibers and rinse with a safe professional strength spotter.

Grease - Work liquid or granular detergent into spot. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.

Gum - Freeze with ice in a bag and chip off all that you can. Work a little petroleum jelly into the remaining residue and roll the gum into it. Scrape up and follow with a safe professional strength spotter.

Ink- spray on hair spray or blot with rubbing alcohol. For heavy spots, try denatured alcohol and follow with a safe professional strength spotter.

Lipstick, Makeup - Work foam shaving cream into the spot well and rinse with either cold water or club soda.

Mud -cover wet mud with salt or baking soda and let dry thoroughly before touching. Once dry, vacuum using the attachment hose to concentrate the suction on the dried mud.

Paint - sponge with thinner, recommended on can or with turpentine until paint disappears. Work full strength detergent into stain, then rinse well. Repeat if necessary.

Red Soda, Kool-Aid - Pour club soda and Blot! Blot! Blot!. If the stain is old, use club soda method to lighten the stain then saturate with undiluted lemon juice. Test in a small area first to be sure it won't lighten the carpet. Wait 15 minutes pour and blot again.

Red Wine - Saturate with salt and follow with club soda then Call Young Carpet Ceaning right away!

Urine - Soak up as much liquid as possible from the carpet. Pour on club soda (or cold water) and blot by standing on paper towels or rags. Repeat this step to remove as much of the urine as possible. Then mix a mild solution of 1/3 cup white vinegar and 1 qt cool water in a spray bottle and spray onto pet stains to help remove the smell. Rinse with cold water and blot. Then call Young Carpet Cleaning so that the area can be treated with professional strength product so that it does not become permanent.

Vomit - Sprinkle on a heavy coating of baking soda. Let it absorb moisture and dry, then scoop or vacuum up. The baking soda will neutralize acids and help prevent stains.
